MEET JAMES

“HEY I’M JAMES”

I’m the guy behind the lens here at Farrow Films. I currently live in the Lake District with my husband Leon & my springer spaniel Alfie. I say “currently” because I wouldn’t say no to a cosy cottage in the Cotswolds later in life where we watch Gilmore Girls during the day and play Yahtzee at night.

It might make you want to side eye your finance right now but I really do love life and love what I do. Let’s get the sad bit out of the way first (I promise it’s for context) but I lost my Dad when I was 12. Ever since that moment i’ve tried to say “YES” to the majority of things that come my way.

I am petrified of flying but insist on travelling to America once a year. I could say that it’s all in the name of “facing my fear” but the real reason is I just want a 10kg bag of Swedish fish and they only seem to do that in NYC.

“MY APPROACH IS SIMPLE”

I’m probably going to have the same tag line as every videographer at this point but i’m going to hit you with the three magic words, “natural, discreet & documentary”

When I first started filming weddings I was the vision of “all the gear no idea”. I would have my gimbal in my hand for the majority of the day thinking that I needed to do cool movements 100% of the time to make your film look “cinematic”. I soon realised that I found more enjoyment doing things the old fashioned way, which was looking through the view finder and framing each shot. My approach seeks the beauty & the story telling with subtle movements and simplistic frames.

“MY SECRET IDENTITY”

So are you ready… i’m also a Zumba Instructor.

This is becoming less of a “secret identity” as i’ve been asked a few times to liven the dance floor up and unleash my Zumba moves. One bride actually requested it on her questionnaire under the section “is there anything else I need to know about” where I would usually expect something like “we’ll be doing sparklers at 8pm” or “my Nan will be getting up do to a breakdance at 7pm so please can you capture that”.

I love bringing people joy. Whether that’s teaching Zumba every Friday night or getting your initial reaction message once you’ve seen your wedding film. Life really is too short and we all deserve to smile, laugh and have fun.
